How we give back

Giving Back Through Clay

At Deep Blue Ceramics, we believe clay is about so much more than pottery.

It's about bringing people together, building confidence, supporting wellbeing and strengthening our community.

Giving back isn't something we do after we've succeeded. It's part of how we do business every day.

Every workshop booked, every membership joined and every handmade piece purchased helps us support local charities, community organisations and initiatives that make creativity more accessible.

When you choose Deep Blue Ceramics, you're helping create something much bigger than a beautiful handmade mug or bowl.

You're helping build a more connected community.

Empty Bowls Canberra 2025

One of the initiatives we're most proud to support is Empty Bowls Canberra.

Empty Bowls is a global movement that brings communities together over handmade bowls and simple meals to raise funds for people experiencing hardship and food insecurity.

In 2025, Deep Blue Ceramics proudly donated bowls created by our community to support the Canberra event.

Thanks to the generosity of potters, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who attended, more than $6,400 was raised for HelpingACT, helping local charities continue their vital work supporting people across our region.

Watching our community contribute their creativity to something that genuinely helps others is exactly why we love what we do.

Clay It Forward

Sometimes a small act of kindness can make someone's day.

Our Clay It Forward cupboards are filled with handmade ceramics that anyone is welcome to take home, free of charge.

Many pieces are donated by our members and local makers, while others are created during workshops and community events.

Whether someone discovers a handmade mug, bowl or little sculpture, we hope it reminds them that kindness still exists, often in the most unexpected places.

Creativity for Wellbeing

We know firsthand that working with clay can be calming, restorative and deeply rewarding.

That's why we're passionate about creating opportunities for people who may not otherwise have access to creative experiences.

We've been privileged to partner with organisations supporting veterans, community groups and people facing challenging circumstances, using clay to encourage confidence, connection and wellbeing.

One of the greatest joys of teaching isn't seeing a finished piece. It's watching someone realise they're capable of creating something they never thought possible.

Supporting Local Communities

Our community support extends beyond our studio walls.

Throughout the year we're proud to contribute through:

• Donating workshops and experiences to community fundraisers

• Supporting schools, charities and local organisations

• Providing raffle prizes and fundraising donations

• Collaborating with community groups and local events

• Creating opportunities for connection through shared creative experiences

Every opportunity to support our community is one we're grateful to be part of.

Caring for Our Environment

Creating beautiful ceramics also comes with a responsibility to care for the environment.

We're continually improving the sustainability of our studio by reducing waste, recycling clay wherever possible, making thoughtful purchasing decisions and encouraging handmade pieces that are designed to be loved and used for years.

Small changes, consistently made, can have a meaningful impact.

Thank You

None of this happens because of us alone.

It happens because of our incredible students, members, teachers, volunteers and supporters who believe creativity can make a difference.

Every class you book, every membership you join and every piece you create helps us continue giving back.

Thank you for helping us build a kinder, more creative and more connected community through clay.

If you're part of a charity, school, community group or not-for-profit organisation and think we might be able to work together, we'd love to hear from you.
