🔥 Obvara + Raku Horsehair & Feather

One-Day Raku Workshop
Saturday 6 September | 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Springwood, Blue Mountains

Get ready for a fast-paced, fire-filled day exploring two ancient and expressive ceramic firing techniques: Obvara and Horsehair & Feather. This immersive one-day workshop is perfect for adventurous potters, artists, and curious creatives — no prior Raku experience required.

Hosted in beautiful Springwood (Blue Mountains), this workshop is open to Deep Blue Ceramics members and includes all raku and obvara materials, firings, instruction — and a delicious shared lunch.

🔍 What You’ll Learn:

✨ Obvara Firing
An ancient Eastern European technique where red-hot pots are dipped into a fermented flour mixture and cooled rapidly, producing raw, earthy, unpredictable surface textures.

✨ Horsehair & Feather Firing
Create smoky, expressive carbon trails by applying horsehair and feathers to red-hot ceramics — resulting in one-of-a-kind glaze-free designs.
